Passengers flying on British Airways this month have been promised the “most Christmassy British original celebrations yet”.
One of the main operators linking Gibraltar Airport with the UK, the airline says it is “pulling out all stops” with Christmas dinners, festive soaps and scents, hours of Christmas classics, and a variety of sweet treats.
“From the moment customers step foot into London Heathrow, Gatwick and City airports, they will notice the decked-out halls with festive check-in screens, Christmas décor and seasonal music playing. Customers travelling through the airline’s lounges can tuck into bespoke Christmas menus, cookies, gingerbread and mulled wine, as well as soak up a special festive scent featuring cinnamon and festive spices.”
As British Airways customers board over the festive period, they will be able to enjoy Christmas music before settling into seats decorated with specially designed festive headrest covers featuring the airline’s bespoke Christmas ribbon design. All customers will also be handed farewell chocolates when they depart from their flight.
Customers travelling in Euro Traveller on short-haul flights will be able to choose from a selection of festive treats available to purchase through High Life Café, including Tom Kerridge’s turkey feast sandwich, Pullin’s Gingerbread Muffin and LoveRaw’s vegan M:lk Choc Cre&m bar. They can also savour a variety of Christmas drinks, including Black Cow’s Christmas Spirit vodka and Brewdog’s Elf lager.
In addition, British Airways has launched its “Big Little Welcome” campaign, giving customers the opportunity to greet loved ones with a welcome message displayed across billboards and airport screens when they arrive at Heathrow, Gatwick and City airports over the Christmas period.
“Christmas is one of our favourite times of the year – customers and colleagues alike,” said chief customer officer Calum Laming, “and we’re all really excited to spread some holiday cheer over the coming weeks, both at the airport and in the skies.
“We hope these special touches, both big and small, help make our customers’ journey, wherever it may be, as original and extra special as possible. To all our customers, however you are celebrating, we wish you a very Merry Christmas.”
Christmas and New Year Celebrations in Gibraltar
On arrival in Gibraltar, visitors will be able to join the locals enjoying a diverse and vibrant calendar of festive celebrations, including fair attractions and Christmas light shows.
The government has also just announced that a Christmas extravaganza will be organised in town on 9 and 16 December 2023.
The two “Christmas Saturdays in Town” have been added to the festive agenda to take advantage of the momentum created with the recent Christmas Wonderland events. Events and activities will include performances by local dance groups and choirs, orchestras, bands, ongoing fair attractions, and the arts and crafts market.
Looking further ahead, Gibraltar Cultural Services, on behalf of the ministry of culture, has announced the program of events for this year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations organised by GibMedia. The New Year will be brought in officially on Sunday 31 December at Casemates Square from 10.30 pm (to 3 am on Monday 1 January), and there will be live performances by Jet Stream and The Jesse Tree as well as DJ sets “to dance the night away”. The countdown will be hosted by James Neish and Miss Gibraltar Faith Torres.
