The first Christmas coin collection in Gibraltar featuring the effigy of King Charles III will be released for sale tomorrow.
This year is the 35th since the first collection was launched in 1988, when it included the traditional 50p Christmas card and 50p currency coin. In recent years Gibraltar National Mint has also produced a £2 coin together with the 50p collection.
Responding to the ongoing popularity of the collections, the Mint has issued both the 50p and the £2 again this year.
Unveiling the collection on Friday at the Gibraltar Savings Bank, Sir Joe Bossano (minister with responsibility for the Mint), said “the program’s popularity is increasing year upon year and the exclusivity of these coins are extremely popular among collectors”.
Members of the public, including tourists, can purchase the coins from Monday 11 December at the Gibraltar Savings Bank, 206/210 Main Street, or via Gibraltar National Mint’s website, www.gibraltarnationalmint.gov.gi
