Gibraltar’s annual Christmas coin collection was unveiled today. Held at the Gibraltar Savings Bank, the launch was presided over by Sir Joe Bossano, minister with responsibility for the Gibraltar National Mint.
This is the 34th year since the first collection was launched in 1988, including the traditional 50p Christmas card and 50p currency coin. Two years ago, for the first time, the Mint introduced a £2 collection together with the 50p collection and – due to the popularity of the collections – both have been issued again this year.
According to the government, the program’s popularity is increasing every year, and the coins’ exclusivity is proving to be “extremely popular among collectors”.
Members of the public, including visiting tourists, can purchase the coins from tomorrow (Wednesday 7 December) at the Gibraltar Savings Bank (206/210 Main Street).
